You just got your Christmas bonus, you’ve got several days off around the holidays, and you don’t have anything holding you back. Sounds like the perfect time for a trip around the world! Whether you want to head to another continent or just hit the other side of the country, there are so many great places to visit during Christmas. Here are 6 of the best places to visit for a winter escape.
Edinburgh, Scotland

You can enjoy a fantastic Christmas with fireworks blasting over Edinburgh Castle and the gorgeous sound of bagpipes pouring our “Amazing Grace” through the night in this cultural city. Enjoy a warm evening by the fireplace in The Caledonian Hilton, and delight yourself with delicious delicacies such as Gartmorn Farm duck and Loch Duart salmon at the Witchery, a charming restaurant near the castle
Amsterdam

Visit the place where St. Nicholas was born, and enjoy the beauty of the white lights all over the country! This family oriented holiday time is very special for close friends and relatives, and if the temperature drops low enough, the canal will freeze over for some lovely skating as pretty as a Christmas postcard!
Boston, Massachusetts

For a cozy ambiance of snow over cobblestone streets, you can have a very merry Christmas in Boston when you stay at the XV Beacon Hotel, warming yourself by the fireplace as you watch the snowflakes fall. Enjoy a showing of The Christmas Revels at the Harvard’s Sander’s Theatre, and finish your night with some tasty French and Italian influenced dishes, desserts and cheeses at the No. 9 Park.
Venice, Italy

You can book yourself a stay at the cozy and intimate Ca’ Pisani or the more luxurious Hotel Cipriani, and then stroll through the Piazza San Marco in the evening for some beautiful moonlit air all by yourself. Do as the Italians do and feast away on December 24th, not missing out on some baked branzino or shrimp risotto at the Do Forni.
Puerto Rico

This warmer climate has 2 weeks following December 25th filled with feasts, family and partying. Enjoy some delicious beverages like Coquito which is a rum-based, eggnog-like drink, and feast away on pasteles and pernil, some great Puerto Rican holiday favorites. Don’t forget to head to Rincon for some “winter” surfing!
Durango, Colorado

Feel like getting in some skiing? Well now’s the time to go for it! You can enjoy some old-fashioned cinema style rooms in The Rochester Hotel, or experience the town’s homage to old westerns by visiting the Diamond Belle Saloon in the Strater Hotel. So go for spin on the slopes, head out for Christmas dinner at Ken and Sue’s bistro, and curl up with a book and hot cocoa at the end of the day.
From Europe to South America to the United States and everywhere else, there are so many excellent places to visit for a Christmas or winter getaway. So go take that extra money and your time off of work and enjoy some holiday culture for the trip of a lifetime!
